Vertebrate Zoology research includes taxonomic, systematic, evolutionary, biogeographical, conservation and ecological work on vertebrates (animals with a vertebral column and skull).

Vertebrate research at the Canadian Museum of Nature focuses primarily on ichthyology (Canadian and Middle Eastern fishes, freshwater fishes, lampreys, flatfishes and the cod family), but research is also being done on amphibians and reptiles. Nature also does zooarchaeological research on bones from archaeological sites.
