New Brunswick Waterscapes: A Rich but Threatened Resource

Podcast

July 15, 2010
New Brunswick Museum, Saint John, New Brunswick
Speaker: Dr. Kelly Munkittrick, Associate Director, Canadian Rivers Institute,
University of New Brunswick

Kelly Munkittrick, Ph.D., talks about urbanization impacts upon our water resources, such as "impervious" parking lots and inadequate storm water management. For sustainable development we need to use innovative practices—for example, "green" parking lots. Munkittrick points out that, while there have been successful stream restoration projects, the price is steep. He suggests ways in which individuals can help protect our waterscapes, including harvesting rainwater, cleaning recreational boat hulls, "green" lawn care practices, and more.

This lecture was part of Voices: A Canadian Perspective on Water, the RBC National Lecture Series.
