Design your own museum visit! Be the tour guide for your class in our galleries.

With the help of our activity guide, you will be able to take your class on a tour that is tailored to your grade and is curriculum-based. Choose among two themes for your tour.

Gallery Treks

Your Nature Trek

Ontario: grades 5 to 9
Quebec: elementary cycle 3 and secondary cycle 1

Join your students for the discovery of our galleries. Equipped with an expedition sheet, the students have a choice between two courses:

  • The Gross, the Bizarre and the Ugly
  • The Awesome, the Majestic and the Beautiful.

Here are a few examples of the types of specimens awaiting you: Archelon (a turtle of titanic proportions), a blue whale skeleton, beautiful gems and a great variety of live walking sticks!

Fossils

Fossils and Their Secrets

Ontario: grades 4 to 8
Quebec: elementary cycles 2 and 3, secondary cycle 1

Find out whether mammals and dinosaurs ever co-existed, discover the link between flowers and dinosaurs and decide the outcome of a life-sized showdown between a meat-eating dinosaur and its potential prey! These are but a few of the surprises awaiting students as they unravel fossil secrets on this self-guided scavenger hunt though our Talisman Energy Fossil Gallery. Following this adventure, students can regroup in the Extinction Theatre for an exhilarating conclusion to their visit!

Fossil Hot Topics

Ontario: grades 9 to 12
Quebec: secondary cycles 1 and 2

Is there an evolutionary link between birds and dinosaurs? Was North America ever divided by a large inland sea? Were there ever crocodiles in the Arctic? Find answers to these and many other questions in this self-guided scavenger hunt through our Talisman Energy Fossil Gallery. Students will sharpen their pencils and their minds as they dig though some of the hottest topics in palaeontology! Following this adventure, students can regroup in the Extinction Theatre for an exhilarating conclusion to their visit!

Birds

What Is a Bird?

Ontario: grades 1 and 2
Quebec: elementary cycle 1

On a self-guided visit, teachers, students and adult chaperones will discover our Bird Gallery, which features more than 500 bird specimens. Equipped with travel notebooks, the students will compare their height and weight to those of birds and use binoculars to discover feet and beaks, as well as a multitude of coloured feathers. After the self-guided visit, we invite students to visit the kids' area inside the gallery. Young students will have the opportunity to play while learning how to care for injured birds.
