Specimens to Go

Calling all educators! You can access the Canadian Museum of Nature's collection of mounted specimens and models of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, dinosaurs and minerals for use in your classroom.

Specimens to Go can play an important role for educators in the Ottawa area in enhancing their students' learning experience, or for artists, naturalists, researchers and others seeking models for study. The specimens provide an especially strong visual support for science activities and can be the basis of study units integrating a variety of subjects (e.g., language, science, visual arts).

Schedule

Borrowing Specimens

  • September 2011 to June 2012
  • loans and returns are on Wednesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • the loan period is two weeks
  • you may borrow two specimens at a time.

This red fox is available for loan. All specimens are in such cases.

Reserving Specimens

  • you may reserve specimens at any time during the year (see Information and Reservations)
  • you may reserve all your specimens for the year at once.

$30 for the entire school year

Note

  • you must pick up the specimens from the museum and return them in person
  • the specimens are in cases, and some of them are heavy; you will require assistance when transporting them
  • specimens should never be stacked on top of each other
  • specimens must be well secured while being transported
  • we provide information on the proper handling of specimens.
